Jerry Russell Thornton, Sr., age 71 of Toccoa formerly from Pensacola, FL, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2017.
Born in Pensacola, FL on April 26, 1945 he was a son of the late Marion Radcliff and Aline Hewitt Thornton. Mr. Thornton was a United States Army Reserve veteran having served with the 121st Airborne Division. He was valedictorian of his graduation class at Pensacola Junior College. After years of participation in the Boy Scouts of America he was granted the highest achievement obtainable as Eagle Scout and awarded the Order of Arrow by the President of the United States. Mr. Thornton was a loving son, father, and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Brandi LaAnn Thornton; great grandchild, Roman Gabriel Thornton.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry “Russell”, II & Armanda Conley Thornton of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren, Austin Chandler Buckner, Aaron Jeremy Thornton, Adrian Roette and Hannah Roette; great grandchildren, Kiara Thornton and Dominque Thornton; ex-wife, JoAnn Thornton.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Pensacola, FL.
