Obituary for Roslyn Strickland

Roslyn Bynum Strickland died on August 7, 2020. She was born on September 22, 1923 to the late Thad L. Bynum and Irene Powell Bynum. She married the late Ronald Brand Strickland on October 28, 1951.

In addition to her parents and husband, Roslyn was preceded in death by her two brothers and their wives, Knox and Armede Bynum and James and Barbara Bynum. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Emily Bynum Albright. She is survived by many special nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces and nephews of which she loved and was loved by all.

After graduation from Georgia State College for Women in 1945, Roslyn was manager of the Bynum House Hotel during the summer months, and worked as a legal secretary for her father and later her brother, both attorneys in Clayton during the winter months.

Roslyn was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church where she served on various committees and as a Trustee for a period of time. She was active in the Women’s Missionary Society for many years and a former member of Philathea Sunday School Class.

Her participation in community activities included being a former member of Clayton Woman’s Club, The Clayton Pilot Club, the Rabun County Chamber of Commerce, Rabun County Hospital Auxillary, and on the Board of Directors of Northeast Georgia Regional Library.

A special thank you to the many caregivers that looked after her and also to Sherrie Crone, Martha McCutcheon and Corrine Wilkerson who were with her at the end.

It is asked that in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made to the Clayton Baptist Church, Rabun Cross Society, Inc, or the charity of your choice.

A memorial service will be held at Clayton Baptist Church on Sunday August 30th at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Joey Thompson officiating. The service will be live-streamed to allow extended family the ability of participating.
